I’ve tried a lot of ceremonial cacao and this is the first bar that tastes as good as it looks. One piece melted into hot milk and it was the best cup I’ve made at home.

Ceremonial cacao, made to melt into hot milk or water.
10 portioned pieces
Single-origin cacao from the Berau region of Borneo, grown in forest-edge gardens near the Kelay River.
The cacao is stone-ground whole for 72 hours; the slow grind not only gives the finished cup its body, it keeps processing minimal and preserves the bean's nutritional qualities.
Read the origin story →One ingredient: cacao. Ingredient declaration: cacao mass (100%). Unsweetened, with no added sugar.
Naturally occurring per 20 g piece: total polyphenols 890 mg (measured as gallic acid equivalents, GAE, by independent laboratory analysis), theobromine about 156 mg, caffeine about 51 mg. Levels vary by batch.

Product questions →The compounds cacao is famous for
890 mg total polyphenols*
Polyphenols are natural plant compounds, and cacao is one of the richest food sources of them. In raw cacao beans the main group is flavanols, the family most often studied in relation to blood-vessel function.12
Independent laboratory analysis measured 890 mg of total polyphenols in one 20 g piece.3
For scale: approximately the same Folin/GAE reading as 400 g (14.1 oz) of blueberries, using average values.4
* Total polyphenols measured by Folin-Ciocalteu assay and expressed as gallic acid equivalents (GAE). This is a total-polyphenol index, not a measurement of flavanols. Naturally occurring levels vary by batch. The blueberry comparison is a like-for-like comparison of laboratory readings, not a comparison of health effects.345
A good source
60 mg magnesium
Magnesium is an essential mineral involved in more than 300 enzyme systems, including those used for normal muscle and nerve function and energy production.6
One piece provides 60 mg, 15% of the Daily Value, making it a good source of magnesium.78
For scale: about the magnesium in half a cup of cooked black beans (60 mg).6
Essential mineral
200 mg potassium
Potassium is an essential mineral involved in fluid balance, nerve signals and muscle contraction.10
One piece provides 200 mg, 4% of the Daily Value.7
For scale: a little under half the potassium in a medium banana (422 mg).10
Cacao's gentler stimulant
156 mg theobromine
Theobromine is cacao's principal stimulant, a naturally occurring relative of caffeine with a milder, slower character. One piece carries about 156 mg.7
Human studies suggest cacao methylxanthines can help the body absorb cocoa flavanols and strengthen their short-term effects on blood-vessel function.11 The cited research tested cocoa methylxanthines alongside measured cocoa flavanols. NUDE's flavanol content has not yet been measured, so this is category research, not a demonstrated effect of one NUDE piece.11
Clearly disclosed
51 mg caffeine
One 20 g piece contains approximately 51 mg of naturally occurring caffeine; about half the caffeine of an 8 oz cup of brewed coffee.712
Whole cacao
3 g dietary fibre
Because NUDE uses whole cacao, its intrinsic plant fibre remains rather than being removed with the rest of the bean.13
For scale: approximately the same amount of fibre as a medium banana.14
*Amounts are per 20 g piece. The 890 mg result is total phenolics measured as gallic acid equivalents (GAE) by the Folin method, not a flavanol dose. References provide composition context, not promised health effects. Naturally occurring levels vary by batch.

Wild-grown cacao from the forest edges of East Kalimantan, Borneo.
Fermented and sun-dried where it grows, then kept single origin so the character of the place stays intact; a creamy cacao with roasted-almond notes and naturally low acidity.

Didn’t expect 100% cacao to be this smooth. No sugar and honestly I don’t miss it. The scored pieces make the whole thing stupidly easy.
Jess K.
Swapped my afternoon coffee for a cup of this. Rich and earthy, and the froth comes out unreal with a splash of milk.
Daniel R.
Surprisingly rounded and nutty; not very bitter, which is why it makes such a great cup.
It is unsweetened, so how sweet your cup ends up is yours to decide. Add honey and/or spices to taste.
About 51 mg in one 20 g piece; roughly half a cup of coffee. Cacao’s main stimulant is theobromine, which is gentler than caffeine, at about 156 mg per piece. Naturally occurring levels vary by batch.
